Brazilian Mauro Sierro Dias Alves Faria, a student at the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland (a Swiss Education Group member), won the gastronomy contest organised this summer by the Swiss weekly magazine FEMINA.
Arranged at the premises of the Migros Club School in Nyon, the contest allowed the 23-year-old cooking enthusiast to demonstrate his perfect mastery of textures and seasoning, as well as his overall presentation and gustatory qualities as exemplified in his preparation of a Scallops and Valais Strawberry Terrine. Also noteworthy was the excellent ranking of the other Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland students who took third, fifth and sixth position.
Manuella Magnin, a culinary creator and the organiser of the FEMINA contest, as well as Magdalena Zbinden of Migros Club School, awarded the prize to the winner at a venue in Nyon.
"We are extremely proud to reveal our young and upcoming chefs’ proficiency and passion through this contest which clearly testifies to their success ambition," said Alain Muller, Executive Chef and Programme Manager at the Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland. "It’s indeed with a positive attitude towards apprenticeship and their feet firmly on the ground that people succeed in our profession."
In addition to the winner, the three other candidates from the Culinary Arts Academy were:
Consisting of two food and catering professionals as well as Magdalena Zbinden of Migros Club School, the jury appraised the students according to the inventiveness, execution quality and presentation of their recipe.
